Naples
Duration: approximately 5 hours
Naples is an enchanting and moving city, unique and different. Many Italian symbols, renowned even abroad, originated here, such as pizza, pasta, ragù (a tomato sauce with veal or pork that requires 5-6 hours of cooking time), the famous ricotta-based pastiera, babà, the tarantella, Pulcinella (a famous Neapolitan mask), songs, and Neapolitan theater.
Founded by the Greeks, and therefore with a thousand-year history, Naples was the capital of southern Italy and Sicily for eight centuries.
The city center is quite large (the largest in Europe) and very rich: in 1700, Naples had around 500 domes, although today there are about 100 fewer due to the bombings of World War II. Despite this, it still has the largest number of monumental churches in the world, making it fascinating to lose yourself in its narrow streets. Tourists are drawn to its working-class neighborhoods, historic buildings, and numerous signs of religious devotion, all in Baroque style.
In the western district are the Spanish Quarters and Spaccanapoli, one of the neighborhoods with the largest number of churches, including Santa Chiara with the adjoining cloister of the Poor Clares built in 1300.
Don't miss the museums that enrich Naples: the National Archaeological Museum and the Royal Palace of Capodimonte, on the hill, home to a collection of wonderful porcelain.
Pompei
Duration: approximately 5 hours
Departure from your hotel or meeting point (by coach or minibus) to POMPEII to rediscover what remains of the ancient splendors of the Roman Empire in the 80s BC.
Pompeii is one of the most significant testimonies of Roman civilization. Founded around the 8th century BC, it was destroyed by the violent eruption of Vesusius in 79 AD, which covered it in ash and lapilli. It was rediscovered in the 18th century, becoming an exceptional open book on the art, customs, and crafts of the era. Indeed, it immediately provided insight into daily life in Roman times.
Fabulous villas with frescoes preserved over time, an amphitheater and much more came to light, demonstrating the prosperity of this city in the past.
Visit the excavations and then a coral factory where you can observe the cameo making process.
The ancient art of cameo making dates back approximately 4,000 years. From the very beginning, cameos have been used as feminine adornments, but also to decorate vases and various objects. Even then, refined engravings were made on gems and semi-precious stones, whose properties gave the jewelry a particularly delicate feel; they were considered small artistic compositions. As this art became increasingly appreciated, it was brought to perfection during the Roman era. This is evidenced by the archaeological finds unearthed during excavations at Herculaneum and Pompeii.
Continue to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary, a destination for pilgrimages and visits from faithful from around the world. Return.
